Caring for Children Award

Who is this course for?

This course is suitable for parents and carers who wish to progress onto a Certificate in Caring for Children. This course will enable you to explore and evaluate your own parenting skills and help you to recognise if a career working with children is an employment route for you.

Entry Requirements

The course is portfolio based and you will be assessed on evidence gathered through completion of written assignments, worksheets and free writing which require a minimum of Entry 3 Level Functional Skills English. Experience of being a parent or carer is essential.

What You Will Learn

• Develop effective communication and literacy skills with children • Provide skills to develop positive relationships with children • Recognise the importance of play and appropriate age-related toys for children • Identify effective ways to communicate with children and encourage language development in own babies and children • Make a resource to use when reading a book to a child • Identify ways to encourage child development through play

Course Aim

Develop knowledge and understanding of how to develop children’s communication and literacy. Develop knowledge and understanding about how babies and children develop relationships with their carers.

12 weeks

What You Will Need to Bring

Please invest in a ring binder to store your work and black or blue pens to complete your portfolio. Everything else ill be provided.

How You Will Learn

You will attend a class, once a week, where you will be taught by our tutor but will also be with other learners to take part in practical tasks and individual and group activities. Our staff are on site to support you too. You will be asked to complete some supplementary tasks at home including a diary and there will be enrichment opportunities and online tutorials where needed.
